Seething Saul, Samuel, and the Seer

Ever hear your name called out of the blue? I have. Could be God because He called Samuel that way. He ended up being a great prophet for the Lord. (1Samuel Chapter 3)[Has God called you?]

Saul was a King who did not follow in the ways of the Lord. So God was angry with Him and raised up David. (David was a boy when he defeated Goliath and he was then respected by everyone.) Saul knew this and began to conspire against him. King Saul offered his daughter to David and asked for 100 foreskins (yeah, foreskins people, talk about the circumcision . .ew ). But David brought back 200 (talk about the perseverence . . double ew). King Saul wanted to bring David closer so that he could kill him.

Before all this happened, David met Saul by being a comfort to his distress. He would play the harp beautifully for him. He served King Saul faithfully.

However, Saul had issues and became envious of David's relationship with the Lord and his fame. But Saul did not try to seek God like David did. Saul actually sought a medium to call up the spirit of the prophet Samuel who had died because he wanted an answer from God about what to do. This act really made God angry and so when Samuel came up from the dead, he said to Saul - that the next day, him and his sons would be with him -(in other words, dead). Read 1Samuel 28:3-19. [Lesson - Love your brethren, don't take up offense, don't mess with the occult, & don't worship other gods . . .)

So, Saul dies, David becomes king but unfortunately David covets another man's woman - hello Bathsheeba - and lays with her (Adultery!!). uh-huh yeah, he messed up and on top of that, he ends up setting up Uriah, her husband to be killed on the front lines of his army (murderer!). He did this because he got Bathsheeba pregnant. oooh . . oh no he didn't . . oh yes he did. Look, you don't need to watch soaps when you read the bible. Anyway, the Lord sent Nathan to tell David what his punishment from the Lord was. The Lord said,

"Behold, I will raise up adversity against you from your own house; and I will take your wives (because he had more than one) before your eyes and give them to your neighbor, and he shall lie with your wives in the sight of the sun. For you did it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel, before the sun."

And so, David's son was stricken with an illness and died. Now, much more happened after this, so read the Word because it is awesome. (2Samuel 11 and beyond)
